General Tab Interface

After LAN messenger is installed on a particular computer, the small window will open automatically. The first thing you’ll see will be the General tab. You’ll notice it right away as it’s in bold and thus easily distinguishable.

You can adjust the settings to your own taste there. Everything looks simple and detailed explanations are given next to every choice, so all you have to do is read through them and click ‘check’ when you want to activate something. The options provided include:

  • Choosing how much time should pass before your status changes to ‘away’ if you’re inactive;
  • Determining whether you want the taskbar button to be shown;
  • Seeing the combination of hotkeys available;
  • Selecting your language.

There are more than twenty languages available, so even multicultural employees can adjust easily by picking the language they feel comfortable with.

List of Contacts

Along with the General tab, you’ll be able to see the list of contacts. All users who have already installed LAN messenger will be reflected there and all you’ll have to do is to group these users by creating separate categories for them. For that, you have to right-click on the General tab and choose ‘Add New Group’ there. Then, you need to name it by typing ‘Management’, ‘Support Team’, etc. That’s it! To add users there, just click on the name of the user and drag it to the group.

After doing it, every time you open LAN messenger, you’ll see the General tab and the groups of users you have added previously.

Other Icons

The third element present on the interface is several icons offering useful functions. Their names are not reflected so as not to clutter the space, but you can see them if you click on them. You can choose ‘Help’, ‘File Transfer’, or ‘Settings’ there.

In ‘Settings’, you can change your personal information. For example, you can change your first and last names, point out which department you’re from, your job title, and even add your office number if there is one so other employees could easily find you if needed.

You can also choose which notifications you’d like to receive and the type of files transfer you’d like to work with, choosing between automatic download and download that becomes possible after you provide your permission.

This way, it is obvious that LAN messenger has a simple interface that every user can understand. As soon as the new user installs and runs the messenger, they’ll see two things, the General tab category and various icons with settings. After some groups of users are created, the interface will be represented by three categories, two aforementioned ones plus the list of contacts.

As you can see, the interface of LAN messenger is convenient and pleasantly simple, and it offers no chance of misinterpretation.
